A Little Sound
Bristol, United Kingdom
The story of singer/songwriter A Little Sound stretches through the years, poignantly beginning as she found herself wading through the artistic eutopia of Glastonbury Festival at just 5 years old. Before moving to Bristol on the cusp of turning 20, A Little Sound grew up just down the road in Taunton. A performing polymath from a young age, the drummer, singer, dancer, guitarist and song-writer found solace and serenity in her external sonic expressions. It was beyond clear that artistry was certainly flowing through the arteries of this young talent. Writing music from the tender age of 10, and broadcasting it to the world from 11 through her YouTube channel ‘A Little Sound’, the self-taught musician found herself covering popular acoustic and country songs, whilst also weaving together her own compositions. Citing her early references as varied as Gabrielle Aplin, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Hannah Montana, The Prodigy and the Gorrillaz, things took a not-so little turn as she saw Chase & Status live at the age of 14. Followed swiftly by performances from Sigma and Wilkinson, it was witnessing Anne Marie perform live for Rudimental that cemented her newly found love for drum & bass and dance music.
Having studied both musical theatre and musical composition, A Little Sound found herself studying at BIMM in the South-West’s raving capital of Bristol. Instantly falling in love with what she describes as her home for life, she found herself swiftly working alongside the likes of skyrocketing young producer Gray, and the rest of the Born On Road gang. Turning heads in her hometown and beyond, she reached further notoriety through her own covers of Technimatic and Kanine via her long-standing YouTube channel. The pair of producers found her exquisite renditions too impeccable to pass by, and she can now cite Kanine, Technimatic, Shapes, Selecta J-Man and DJ Gaw as collaborators, with forthcoming records to come from some of drum & bass’s leading figures.
Engulfed in a true baptism of fire, her first live performance was in front of 5,000 strong ravers at Boomtown Fair as she was brought on stage by Kelvin 373 to perform as part of his set with fellow Born On Road regulars AC13 and Ben Snow. She’s since graced the stages of legendary Bristolian haunts including Lakota, HighRise, The Attic Bar and Blue Mountain, cementing herself as an integral member of the rich and immersive musical community of Bristol. Enthralled by the live adaptation and performance potential of drum & bass, figures such as Koven and Dr Meaker continue to provide boundless sources of inspiration for the prodigal vocalist.
Spanning styles, genres and beyond, the constant in A Little Sound’s sea of sonic variables is the devastating beauty of her voice. With her debut EP on the horizon via the UKs fastest rising drum & bass label Born On Road, A Little Sound is primed to take the scene by a beautifully sung storm. A range of dynamic and destructive dancefloor collaborations from some of the scene’s biggest names are still to come, and with it, will no doubt see this young talent continue to prosper and flourish into one of the international drum & bass communities leading vocalists.
