Rema Mukena
Bristol, United Kingdom
Named one of the most influential people in Bristol under the age of 24 by Rife Magazine in 2019 and one of the most inspiring Black journalists in the UK by Behind Local News in 2020, Rema Mukena is multi-faceted creative, presenter, award winning journalist and artist. She is a Radio Producer for BBC Audio, working on various podcasts including Michelle Visage’s Rule Breakers and more. She is also a resident DJ with Club Djembe and an artist in residence at MAYK. But her love for radio, music and bringing relentless high energy doesn’t stop there. She has also created shows for Reprezent, SWU FM and Noods Radio with sounds centred around UK funky, baile funk, grime, house and bootlegs – she is known for her genre bending sets. Originally hailing from London, it’s fair to say Rema has made her mark on Bristol – having collaborated with the likes of Boomtown Festival and Saffron Records and performed at Motion, The Love Inn, Thekla, The Trinity Centre and more. She was formerly the Facebook Community Reporter for Bristol Live, working closely with communities which are under-represented in the media. She’s also worked with Channel 4, The Social Detail, Lapp The Brand – just to name a few and she’s an associate lecturer at University of Gloucestershire and University of the West of England. She was also previously part of Livity’s The In Future List Collective – the world’s change makers and leaders.
