Euphonique

Junglist queen Euphonique is recognised worldwide as a serious dubplate spinner, bad gal producer and nurturer of new talent. Owner of Subwoofah Records and wicked producer in here own right – with releases on a number of well-known labels – she’s a force to be reckoned with.

With the rise of the ‘she’s good for a girl’ and ‘girls don’t get booked ‘cause they don’t produce’ in 2017 – she rose to the occasion by releasing a number of heavyweight tracks on imprints such as Liondub, Audio Addict and Murky Digital, followed by EPs on Deep In The Jungle and Born on Road hoping to pave the way for females and kill the stigma around women producers, and in 2020 she had her first solo number one with her ‘No Escape EP’. She now gets regular plays on Radio 1, 1xtra and other stations and has had a number of other tasty top 10s since she got her own productions out there (properly) in 2018.

But that’s not where her story started….

Back in 2006 as a mere teenager, Euphonique joined the free party scene, inspired by the DJs and raves-in-caves she wanted nothing more than to be behind the decks, but with a lack of support from her male peers, she turned to youth workshops and and a music course at college to teach her what she needed to know – before buying her own equipment and practising day-to-day. Lucky enough to have tutors such as Jon Da Silva and Mark XTC – now a close friend – Euphonique learned to spin on both vinyl and what were, at that time, new CDJS. She got her first professional gig at 18 in 2008, at the legendary Hit & Run in Manchester for Rich Reason and has never looked back.

In 2011 Euphonique launched Subwoofah – a bass heavy music event run throughout the North West, it’s popularity grew and it developed into one of Manchester’s main junglist hang outs. By 2012 Euphonique was hosting a show on Unity Radio and met S Man, who soon became one of Subwoofah’s resident DJs and in 2013, following being sent a ridiculous amount of unsigned bangers for their collective shows, the pair decided to develop Subwoofah into a record label. Between them they brought through some of the best new talent you hear today, including their first releasing artist, Epicentre – Subwoofah Records being the first label to sign and distribute him. They were also the first to source artists such as Motiv, Warhead and SL8R, all now well-known in the DnB scene.

Now run solely by Euphonique, Subwoofah developed into a music studio in 2017, focusing more on hosting tutoring sessions, recording sessions and live streams as SubwoofahTV, but in 2019 has relaunched the events and label, with some of the best line ups and tracks to date in store – whilst staying true to their roots, nurturing new and unheard talent.

Euphonique has done a wealth of radio presenting throughout the UK and online, at Unity Radio, Origin UK, Bloc2Bloc, DnBRadio, Rood FM and more, more recently joining Bristol’s SWU.FM in 2020.

Since her first gig in 2008 she has performed worldwide, visiting countries including England, Wales, France, Spain, Germany, Finland, Serbia, Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam. She has performed at some of the UK’s biggest festivals including Glastonbury and Boomtown and has been nominated as Best Female Jungle DJ in the We Love Jungle Awards 2016 + 2017 and Best Breakthrough DJ 2018. With recent features in Mixmag, DnB Arena, UKF, BBC and Red Bull throughout 2019-2020.

Throughout the challenges of 2020 Euphonique kicked of lockdown 1 with a number 1 in the DnB charts with her solo EP ironically entitled ‘No Escape’, and has since done a string of live streams and online festivals – including playing Glastonbury’s Shagri-La’s virtual reality festival – Lost Horizon festival – in June, Hospitality’s ‘beach’ party stream and a number of Facebook Festivals some of which she ran herself – including the Subwoofah 11th Bday 2-dayer – alongside a string of socially distanced events. In October she joined Bristols’s newest FM station SWU.fm doing a monthly show with Ruffneck Ting’s DJ Dazee. She curated a remix EP of her True EP from 2018 (Audio Addict Records) featuring some of the best new producers in the scene – out Nov. More recently she has been working on EPs and remixes for some of the biggest labels in the game – more info on these coming soon!
